The European Times, student assignment 2

Every student has to participate in a groupassignment, and write an article about the difference between Portugal and the Netherlands (see right colom in red).
This group writes about the families they stay with. What's different, what's the same. Contributions of Mathijs, Danique, Luuk, Maud and Alies.

inside the exchange uden sobreda

This blog is created for and by students from the Udens College in the Netherlands and students of the Escola Sobreda Daniel Sampaio in Portugal. These two schools participate in an Exchange Programme which promotes intercultural learning. The students share their exchange experiences on this blog by means of texts and photos in order to create a digital archive.

Individual assignments for exchange students

Each student is expected to write and deliver a report about his/her personal experiences with the exchange. Every day four students write an article for the blog. Each group focuses on a different theme but all groups write about the differences as well as the similarities between both the Portuguese and the Dutch culture.

The collective report (minimum of 300 words / maximum of 500 words, head – title, date, writer) is sent to the supervisor by e-mail before the deadline. The supervisor will then upload the report to the blog by the end of the day. This way the supporters at home will be able to stay updated with our daily activities.

Theme A. The Insider
Here the focus is on social behaviour of both the Portuguese partners and their families. Describe how Portuguese people behave and why. How do they behave in a group compared to the Dutch students? Share an interesting story about your Portuguese partner or one of his/her family members. How do Portuguese students get along with the Dutch (and vice versa)? Tell something about the family with whom you stay.

Theme B. The National Geographic
Here the focus is on the Portuguese environment. This includes nature, architecture, arts, historical sites, etc. What does Portugal look like? What historical things are there to write about? Describe the insides and outsides of the houses and buildings you visit.

Theme C. The European Times
Here the focus is on the Portuguese culture. How do Portuguese people live, work, study, entertain themselves? What is different compared to your own culture? What is similar? Describe the foods and the what is popular. What is school like in Portugal? Write about the educational system.
